The Programme

A managed recovery plan, not a waiting game

Concussion recovery is different for every patient. Our approach combines clinical assessment, symptom monitoring and gradually increasing activity according to your progress.

01

Structured Assessment

A focused clinical assessment evaluating symptoms, cognition, balance, coordination, visual tracking and other findings relevant to concussion.

02

Staged Return to Activity

Activity is gradually reintroduced based on symptoms and recovery, helping guide return to school, work, exercise and sport.

03

Ongoing Monitoring

Follow-up assessments track symptom progression, identify barriers to recovery and allow your treatment plan to be adjusted when needed.

04

Clearance & Documentation

When appropriate, medical documentation can support accommodations, restrictions and staged return to work, school or athletic participation.

Overview & Care Focus

What your visit involves

Your physician will review how the injury occurred, your current symptoms, medical history and recovery to date.

Depending on your presentation, the assessment may include evaluation of cognition, balance, coordination, eye movements, neurological findings and symptom patterns. Your physician can then develop an appropriate recovery and follow-up plan.

Follow-up may be recommended to monitor improvement, progress activity safely and determine when you are ready to return to higher-risk activities.

Who this service is for

Patients with concussion symptoms following sports, falls, collisions, workplace incidents or other head injuries, including patients experiencing persistent symptoms.

What to bring

Bring information about when and how the injury occurred, your current medication list and any relevant imaging, reports or previous assessments.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does concussion recovery take?
Recovery time varies from person to person and depends on the injury, symptoms, previous concussion history, medical factors and activity demands. Your physician will monitor your progress and guide your return to activity.
Do I need a referral?
Please contact Health Plus Medical to confirm current referral and booking requirements for the concussion service.
Can I receive a note for work or school?
Where clinically appropriate, your physician can provide documentation regarding recommended restrictions, accommodations or staged return to normal activities.
Can athletes receive return-to-play guidance?
Yes. Return-to-sport progression can be assessed based on symptoms, examination findings and the demands of the athlete's sport.
What happens during follow-up?
Follow-up appointments evaluate symptom improvement, activity tolerance and clinical findings. The recovery plan may then be progressed or adjusted.
