Health Plus Medical offers the Complete Concussions Program through our Sports Medicine service, providing physician-led concussion assessment, management, rehabilitation coordination, planning and staged return to school, work and sport.
Health Plus Medical is proud to offer the Complete Concussions Program through our Sports Medicine service.
The program provides a structured approach to concussion assessment and management, from pre-season baseline testing and early assessment through treatment, rehabilitation coordination and guided return to learn, work and play.
Your care plan is based on your symptoms, clinical findings, stage of recovery and individual needs. Not every patient requires every test or rehabilitation service listed on this page.
Dr. Qaddori provides physician assessment and management for concussion and sports-related injuries at Health Plus Medical and incorporates the Complete Concussions framework into appropriate patient care.
A concussion is a brain injury that can occur after a significant impact to the head or body that transfers force to the brain. It can temporarily change the way the brain functions.
Symptoms vary between individuals and may involve physical symptoms, changes in thinking or concentration, mood changes and sleep disturbance.
Some symptoms following a head injury may indicate a more serious injury. Seek urgent emergency medical attention if any of the following occur:
If symptoms are severe or rapidly worsening, call 911 or attend the nearest Emergency Department.
Following a suspected concussion, assessment by a healthcare professional trained in concussion care is recommended.
Initial management commonly includes a short period of relative, symptom-limited physical and cognitive rest, followed by gradual reintroduction of activity under clinical guidance.
Patients should not return to contact sport until they have completed an appropriate staged recovery process and have been medically cleared when required.
Concussion care is individualized. Depending on your assessment findings and symptoms, treatment may involve one or more rehabilitation strategies.
Assessment and rehabilitation coordination for dizziness, balance and vestibular symptoms.
Assessment of visual symptoms and appropriate rehabilitation or referral where indicated.
Gradual, clinically guided exercise progression based on symptoms and exercise tolerance.
Cognitive and clinical testing may be incorporated into assessment and recovery monitoring.
Multimodal baseline testing provides pre-injury information that may assist future assessment.
Practical education and individualized guidance may form part of a broader recovery plan.
Neck injury may contribute to concussion-like symptoms; appropriate rehabilitation may be advised.
Staged progression and medical guidance based on symptoms, function and clinical recovery.
Multimodal baseline testing uses a combination of physical and cognitive measures to provide a picture of selected functions before an injury occurs.
Depending on the protocol, assessment may include measures such as balance, reaction time, memory and visual tracking. If a concussion later occurs, the pre-injury results may provide useful comparison information as part of the overall clinical assessment.
Returning to regular activities after a concussion should be gradual and based on symptoms, clinical progress and the demands of the activity.
Students may initially require reduced cognitive demands, breaks, shorter school days or other temporary accommodations, followed by gradual progression back to full participation.
Depending on symptoms and job requirements, temporary restrictions or modified duties may be recommended before normal work activity is resumed.
Return-to-sport uses a staged progression from symptom-limited activity to exercise, sport-specific training, non-contact activity and eventual medical clearance where required.
The Concussion Tracker smartphone application is designed to support concussion monitoring and communication, particularly for athletes and organizations participating in the Complete Concussions program.
Availability and use of particular app functions may depend on how your care or sports organization is enrolled in the Complete Concussions program.
The Complete Concussions patient handbook includes information about concussion symptoms, warning signs, recovery, symptom management, return to school and sport, persistent symptoms, and rehabilitation.
